I am just as passionate about reading as about style stalking and fashion. But thanks to a horrible schedule of my undergrad in economics and addiction to the unholy world of fbing and texting I am way behind in reading all the YA books I would have loved to read.Currently topping my TO-BE-READ list is Meg Cabot's Insatiable and Sophie Kinsella's Mini Shopaholic. Both my all time favorite author when it comes to chick lit.I must say i was disappointed when Meg Cabot also was throwing a vampire romance book to the already growing pile of them littering the stores. It's like the success of the Twilight series has made the publishers Green light all the vampire novels ever written. But after having read an excerpt I must say Cabot has not disappointed.
But I did get a chance to read three pretty amazing books.Sea Change by Aimee Friedman,Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkens and Marked by P.C and Kirsten Cast.
I know marked is the first in the seires of very popular House of Night novels but i must say I liked it least.I personally found the cherokee legend and all parts very boring. And whats up with ALL the guys falling for zoey!!How are we supposed to connect to her??I mean how rare is it for someone you are crushing on to like you right back.I still prefer Sophie from Hex Hall with her futile and unrequited crush on the most popular girls bf.
Both the stories were set in boarding schools. After Harry Potter all these are just gonna look like lame attemps to create another hogwarts. But I still really liked Hex Hall and Sophies vampire bff Jenna who is obsessed with all things Hot PINK.(JUST LIKE ME!!)
The part in Marked which I liked the best was the Cat choosing the human and not the other way round.Being a total cat person i can only wish that happens with me.But I am not at all planning on reading any more books from the House of Night novels,I have had just enough of vampires.Demonglass(the sequel to Hex Hall) is something I am definately looking forward to.
THE SYNOPSIS(from GOODREADS) INCASE YOU ARE STILL SCEPTICAL ABOUT THIS BOOK-
When Sophie Mercer turned thirteen, she discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-Gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hecate Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward prodigium, a.k.a. witches, fae, and shapeshifters. By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard. Three powerful enemies who look like supermodels; a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock; a creepy, tag-along ghost; and a new roommate, who happens to be the most-hated person and only vampire on campus. Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her friend Jenna is the number one suspect. Meanwhile, Sophie has a more personal shock to grapple with. Not only is her father the head of the prodigium council, he's the most powerful warlock in the world, and Sophie is his heir. As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all prodigium, especially her.
Reading Sea Change was sheer Bliss.I dont care if the story ended to abdruptly.I dont care if the mystical occurings were not explored as much I was hoping for. This is one of those few books that actually transport you to this wonderful and yet familiar place.Selkies islalnd is beautifully described. It made me crave for my native place with all the beaches and the country side and move away from the city life.Aimee's writing is lyrical and at times makes you nostalgic. The romance in Sea Change with the subtle supernatural backgroung was breath takingly fresh and thankfully merman instead of a vampire for once was much appreciated. The cover is mersmerising and depicts the book perfectly. This book shrouded in mystery was enchanting and a must read.!P.S-I was jsut looking through my old pictures folder and here is a pretty Princess Diaries bag some fan must have made for meg.
XOXOX
Much Love,
Pranali.
